2025 Old Fashioned Gravel Ride – Communications Assistance
On September 13, 2025, from about 5:30am to 3pm, MVARA provided communications assistance at each of the 7 stops on the “Old Fashioned Gravel” bike route in SE Minnesota. Wayne Oliver, K0WLO coordinated our assistance with the bike ride leadership. Some notes from that day:
- Wayne said we did well, no one was injured.
- The mapping App for this year did not work as well as the year before.
- The Decorah repeater does exist!
- Paul Reardon from Old Fashioned Gravel will be stopping by next month for an event debrief.
- Greg transported one rider who could not complete the race back to the farm.
- Tom & Rob were on the bus in Freeburg, MN. and were able to run some wire for the radios when they had a bit of down time between different groups of riders.
- Vic was Net Control at the farm and said we need a table and a better antenna mast set up for next year.
- Eric Benson operated from his home in Eitzen, MN.and acted as a relay station.
